Porsche Parts Supplier, Design911, Celebrates Success of Expansion to Netherlands Warehouse

A specialist provider of Porsche OEM parts, components, and aftermarket performance parts upgrades, Design911, has marked the achievements made since launching an additional warehousing facility in the Netherlands, which supports faster direct deliveries for European clients.

Design911, which hosts an extensive online catalogue and offers bespoke sourcing for hard-to-find, rare, and discontinued Porsche parts, expanded its storage and logistics footprint to overcome lags in delivery times and steep duties levied due to import and export regulations.

Design911 Achieves 100% On-Time Delivery to EU and UK Porsche Parts Customers

The business, which has over 20 years of experience, prides itself on having the most comprehensive selection of Porsche parts, including manufacturer-recommended components, technological and entertainment systems, and compatible parts for vintage and classic Porsches.

It supplies both private retail clients and commercial trade customers and needed to find innovative ways to overcome bottlenecks and inefficiencies in courier and postal deliveries.

Opening the new warehousing space in Heijningen, southwest Netherlands, proved ideal, within proximity of the Belgian border and close to important infrastructure links. The municipality is home to multiple transport service providers, including those managing sea and road freight.

Before the expansion, EU-based clients could find deliveries of much-needed parts or urgent replacements taking as long as ten days, with additional charges that have been introduced post-Brexit and are often applied to imported parts during the customs process.

The investment has paid off, with Design911 now able to offer next-day delivery across Europe for components used in rebuilds, customisation projects, and restorations, as well as general servicing and repairs.

The Success of Design911’s European Expansion

Reflecting on the decisions made to expand warehousing into the Netherlands and whether the strategy had provided a benefit for European clients, Design911 Head of Sales Strategy, Anthony Malone, said, ‘We are delighted with the feedback from our clients, both regular customers working in the automotive industry and Porsche collectors and enthusiasts.

As the largest Porsche component stockist, we saw that our diverse clientele was far from limited to the UK, where Design911 is headquartered. We examined several potential scenarios where we could change our logistics model to ensure all our customers, local and overseas, received the same high-quality service.

Of course, our British facilities, new Porsche Warehouse Workshop, and showrooms are part of the Design911 experience, but since we were first established in 1995, much has changed, and we knew we’d need to try something new to maintain the standards and customer satisfaction we aspire to.

The Netherlands facility has been a brilliant addition. While we continue to manage central functions like payments and order admin here in the UK, we have the agility to import stocks straight to our Dutch warehousing site, which means we can keep pace with demand even during peak periods.

Design911's EU team focuses on the same commitments to efficiency we stand for. We have six new goods-in stations to facilitate speedy intakes and the same number of dispatch facilities, which helps us maintain a steady flow of Porsche parts in and out according to requirements.’

UK Firms Adapt to Brexit to Provide Seamless Customer Services

Design911 is one of several well-known British companies that has taken decisive action to find better ways to serve EU customer bases. In 2022, it began work on acquiring a site in a strategically relevant region in Europe before formally opening the warehouse a year later.

The expansion's success is likely due to the strong consumer base and Porsche ownership numbers in Europe. In 2023, the manufacturer reported a 3% uptick in new Porsche purchases, of which 22% were delivered to customers in Europe, representing 12% market growth.

In contrast, new Porsches sold by the manufacturer in the UK increased by 33% year-on-year, with over 24,000 purchased in 2023 alone, from 46 Porsche Centres.

However, another aspect of Design911's success is likely to be the enthusiasm for vintage and classic Porsches. A staggering 70% of every model ever built by the marque is still driven today, and tens of thousands are owned, restored, and lovingly maintained in Europe.
